A wide variety of data storage technologies are available to computer users. The most common are disk based drives. The floppy diskette drive and the hard disk drive are examples of this type. Optical disc drives, such as CD-ROM and magneto-optical, are also popular. Other types include tapes, SyQuest and Bernoulli removable cartridges, "floptical" and WORM disks. Another type of device, called a 'virtual' drive, is actually RAM based. Each type of drive has its own particular benefits and often users will incorporate more than one type into their systems.
